Mumbwa District Administration pleased with Sinomine Kitumba Minerals Company SKM’s adherence to the law and speedy developments towards actualization of its integrated mining and copper processing facility in the district. District Administration Officer Simasiku Nawa says the pace at which the mining company is moving towards operationalisation of the mine while following the law and government procedures is pleasing.
Dr Nawa says SKM is conducting processes required in a speedy manner which is helping in creating jobs for the local people in accordance with the promises the president made when he commissioned the project.
He said that SKM is strictly adhering to the law and helping the president and his government realise the promises they made to the electorates.
Dr Nawa was speaking when he represented Mumbwa District Commissioner Namukolo Siayumbu during the combined disclosure meeting for the proposed solar power plant and transmission line at Kitumba mine held on 3rd March 2025.
He said that the lives of people in Mumbwa cannot remain the same with this kind of money being invested in the area adding that there is need to review the district’s integrated development plan to include recent investments.
“You cannot remain poor with US$600 million being invested in your area. This investment by Sinomine Kitumba will bring a of benefits to the local people. Farmers will have market for their produce while schools, health, and trading facilities will also be among other amenities that will benefit through this investment.” Dr Nawa said.
He also warned that government will sternly deal with any investor that will flout Zambian laws and mistreat local people as these are the masters of the country’s leadership.
Speaking at the same meeting, SKM commerce supervisor Dustin Deng reaffirmed the company’s commitment to collaborating with all stakeholders to ensure smooth operations.
He said that SKM will implement the commitments it made to the local people while adhering to government requirements.
And Mumbwa solar power station company limited representative Tang Rui assured the community that his company remains committed to fulfilling the pledges as disclosed at the meeting.
