Mumbwa, Zambia – March 27, 2026, By Rabecca Kakoma
Mining operations at Sinomine Kitumba continue to demonstrate strong and steady progress, with production figures approaching monthly targets. This positive momentum reflects a combination of operational efficiency, a strong safety culture, and proactive environmental management aimed at sustaining productivity while protecting worker wellbeing.
The mine is strategically divided into two primary operational zones: the southern region, managed by CREC 9, and the northern region, overseen by 15 MCC. Both contractors are playing a pivotal role in driving output, demonstrating improved coordination and efficient resource utilization across the site. Their continued collaboration has significantly enhanced workflow, reduced operational downtime, and ensured the smooth execution of mining activities.
As of March 2026, 15 MCC has recorded a month-to-date (MTD) production of approximately 3.28 million tons of waste rock, while CREC 9 has achieved 3.40 million tons. Both teams are steadily progressing toward the monthly target of 4.0 million tons, highlighting a consistent upward trajectory in production performance.
In line with long-term operational objectives, the two contractors are collectively working toward an ambitious annual target of 72 million tons of waste rock in 2026, underscoring the scale and strategic importance of operations at Sinomine Kitumba.

Operational Efficiency Through Equipment Management
Currently, approximately 170 pieces of equipment, including excavators, dozers, and loaders, are actively operating within the mine. These assets play a critical role not only in material movement but also in maintaining well-compacted haul roads, which support faster and safer transportation of materials. Well-maintained haul roads have further enhanced productivity by reducing wear and tear on machinery and improving cycle times. This continued focus on equipment efficiency and road conditions has contributed significantly to sustained high output levels.

Safety Remains a Core Priority
Safety remains at the forefront of all operations at Sinomine Kitumba. Over the past year, the mine has successfully recorded zero fatalities, reflecting a strong commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy working environment. This achievement is attributed to ongoing safety sensitization programs, strict adherence to standard operating procedures, and the consistent implementation of effective safety measures across all departments. Management has continued to emphasize regular training, routine inspections, and proactive risk assessments to sustain this performance and reinforce a culture of safety among employees and contractors. The strong collaboration between our contractors, combined with our unwavering commitment to safety, continues to drive our production success.

Proactive Environmental Management and Dust Control
In addition to production and safety, Sinomine Kitumba is actively addressing environmental challenges, particularly dust generation during the dry season, which can impact visibility, worker health, and operational efficiency. To mitigate these effects, the company is set to construct a water storage reservoir measuring approximately 20 meters by 20 meters, with a depth of 5 meters. This facility will ensure a reliable and continuous water supply for dust suppression activities within the pit and along haul roads.
These measures are expected to significantly reduce airborne dust, improve working conditions, and minimize environmental impact. The initiative reflects the company’s broader commitment to sustainable mining practices and responsible environmental stewardship.

Positive Production Outlook
Looking ahead, the outlook for operations at Sinomine Kitumba remains highly promising. Trial production is progressing well, with operations advancing beyond the initially projected July 2026 timeline. Current estimates indicate that the mine is on track to achieve approximately 1 million tons of ore, marking a significant milestone in its operational journey. This early progress underscores the effectiveness of coordinated efforts between contractors and the efficiency of ongoing mining activities. With strong production performance, a proven safety record, and forward-looking environmental strategies, Sinomine Kitumba continues to position itself as a key contributor to Zambia’s growing mining sector—setting benchmarks for operational excellence, workforce safety, and sustainable development.
